latest stuff!

I am not a good blogger. I don't have the patience to sit down and type sometimes...so I am a little behind. Here is what's been going on:

1)My boyfriend of 6 years, Shane, and I finally got engaged in May! We are getting married Dec 11th, 2010 in Las Vegas. The ceremony is at Graceland Chapel and the post wedding dinner is at Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill in the MGM Hotel. We are inviting close family and friends only so I am really excited to share a fun weekend with people we love the most. A big traditional wedding wouldn't really be our style, so Vegas is perfect! It's definitely a little challenging, though, planning everything from Dallas and hoping everything in Vegas will turn as it is supposed to!

2) My baby boy turned 5 years old, graduated from Pre-K and is going to Kindergarten this fall! He has been at the same preschool for 3 yrs now where he knows everyone and now it is time to move on. I am nervous hoping he likes his new school and that he has fun and that the teachers and other kids will be nice to him. He is such a sweet boy- friendly and accepting of everyone- so I hope he is treated the same.

3)We took a family vacation down to Pointe West over 4th of July weekend. Pointe West is a resort community outside of Galveston and we rented a great condo there. It was right on the beach and had an infinity edge pool and bar/grill on site, among other things. Gage had a blast at the pool and in the ocean and even swam and held his breath underwater! It was fun spending time with my mom, step dad, little sis Alix and future brother-in-law Daniel. There was no oil in sight from the big BP spill in the gulf but there was a lot of trash in certain areas! The beach was still nice, but I couldn't believe how many people just left their beer bottles, water bottles, plastic bags and other trash. I mean, seriously! It takes maybe 10 seconds to pick that stuff up and throw it away?

So... that's it for now! more updates to come this fall!

I can't believe...

...That it has been almost 9 months since my last entry. What can I say? I guess I got a little busy... or lazy, not sure which. I also can't believe my little boy will be 5 years old in June! And a kindergartner this fall. He can write his name, likes to play video games, loves animals and still can't get enough chicken mcnuggets!

Who's rude?

Is it ruder to be rude and display a lack of manners or is it ruder to correct that person? I would say the latter.

I wonder this because I've had 3 instances in the last few months where a stranger chastised and made an attempt to correct my manners, or lack there of:

1) Scenario #1: at a gas station, a girl confronts me for not saying "thank you" to a guy in front of her who held the door open for me. I had said thank you, but she didn't hear it so she felt the need to speak up. first of all, I said it. Second, even if I hadn't it's not your place to correct me.

2)Scenario #2: at a bar, I accidentally stepped on someone's foot. What with the big sweaty crowd, I had no idea I'd stepped on someone's foot. If i had, it would have been immediate apologies. But it was crowded. Music volume was beyond having audible conversation. And you sure it was me that stepped on your foot, and not the dumb ass dancing to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' next to you?

3) #3: i went to a bowling alley recently. A girl using the lane next to us (with 2 other people) felt the need to inform me that I was not to bowl my ball down the lane at the same time as anyone in a lane next to me. It was common courtesy, she said, and something "all bowlers knew". I'm sorry, but I bowl about twice a year for fun only. If you can't concentrate because someone is bowling in the lane next to you, then you're not a good bowler anyway.

To summarize my feelings:
I appreciate you trying to better the world and all, but don't you have more important things to worry about? And in the grand scheme of things, I bet I am a more a considerate and thoughtful person than you.

Correcting my manners is for my mama. Not you.

Thanks!

Top 10 Wedding Trends that Need to DIE !!!

I don't consider myself a wedding expert. But I've both attended and helped plan weddings for numerous people in the last 5 years. So I compiled a list of the top 10 wedding trends that need to die a quick death, based on my observations and the observations of colleagues in "the industry". Here it is:

Top 10 Wedding Trends that Need to DIE
~As compiled by myself and friends in the wedding industry~

10) The cutesy “bride dragging the groom by his tux” cake topper. We’ve all seen this at at least one wedding reception in the last few years. We get it. She’s dragging him off to marry her! Forcing someone to marry you is so funny! Now stop it.

9) The red & white wedding dress. The very first time I saw this dress on a bride, I thought it was unique. Now it just looks tired and trashy. It screams David’s Bridal. Not that there’s anything wrong with buying from David’s Bridal, but do you really want your guests to be certain that you got your dress of the $99 rack? Believe me, they won’t think it came from Monique Lhuillier.

8) The help yourself candy buffet/bar. SOooooo over. Will only impress your relatives from the sticks that ain’t been to no fancy weddins’ ever.

7) The wedding cake that looks like a blue Tiffany box. Did your ring come from Tiffany? Didn’t think so.

6) Playing your college/sorority/fraternity/fight song/theme song at your wedding reception if it’s been more than 5 years since you graduated. Move on with your life! Aggies, that means you too!

5) Pitting vendors against each other & lying about what a competing vendor has offered you in order to get the best “deal”. This is not only tacky, it’s disrespectful to your vendor and the quality of their product!

4) Silk flowers décor and centerpieces. Noooo! In this case, DON’T fake it till you make it. If you can’t afford real flowers from a florist then opt for candles or single buds in a vase from a wholesale florist.

3) “Save the Date” cards for showers, bachelorette parties and other wedding-related events. This is overkill at its finest. Save the “save the date” for the actual wedding itself!

2) Registering at more than 3 stores! Again, tacky, tacky, tacky!

AND FINALLY…

1) Anything having to do with a fairytale princess theme (tiaras, wands, horse & carriage departure, fake castle décor, lots of pink, etc)!! You want to feel like a princess on your big day and so do thousands of other women on their big day. Fine! But be more creative about it!

File this under "That Sucks":

My dad may not like any of my tattoos, but at least I don't have 56 of them on my face!

This girl in Belgium is suing a tattoo artist, claiming she fell asleep and he ruined her face by tattooing 56 stars all over one side. She says she only asked for 3 small star tattoos. She fell asleep and woke up sometime later to find 56 of them spanning from her jawline to forehead instead. The tat guy says he did exactly what she asked, and that she was awake and aware of what he was doing the whole time.

I'm a little iffy about face tattoos. The only person I have ever seen them look halfway decent on is Kat Von D (from LA Ink). I think people should stick to tramp stamps, back and ankle tatts and stay away from the neck and face area. I mean, how dumb does Mike Tyson look?

$249,500 Bond For Alleged Cat Serial Killer

Let me start off by saying that I really don't understand why people harm animals. It is cowardly and sick. I think animal abusers should be strung up and shot. My boyfriend says I care more about animals being harmed than human beings being harmed. I think that's because most animals are defenseless and have less ability to protect themselves than we as people do. Animals, domestic, wild or house-pet should be loved and treated with respect.

This 18 year old kid in Florida has been accused of killing and mutilating nearly 20 cats. "The cat killings weren't something I expected of anyone who's sane," said a friend of the psycho-in-the-making. "With him he was a nice guy. He was friendly. It's such a violent thing. I just couldn't see it happening from him."

Nobody is as they seem! Just because he was a nice, white suburban kid does not mean he's innocent. Let's lock him up now before he turns Jeffrey Dahmer on us and starts going after people!

Rowlett Bridezilla... gag

Does anyone else watch "Bridezillas" on WeTV? It is one of my guilty pleasures, along with "Rock of Love" & "Girls Next Door" (and now spinoff show, "Kendra"). Basically, it's a show about real life brides-to-be that act horrible, either because they're control freaks, whiny, spoiled, stupid or a combination of all four. Last night's episode featured a not cute bridezilla from Rowlett (a suburb of Dallas).

First she gave her bridal party a 200 lb. weight MINIMUM, so no one would be prettier or skinnier than her. Then she made them all stand outside to rehearse on one of Dallas' most freezing nights. Worst of all, she had a "dry" reception. It's a reception, not a county! I'm sorry, but when I get married the alcohol will be flowing! I know it's all about the commitment and not the party, etc, etc, but don't make your guests suffer just because you are overly religious (or, more likely, just too cheap).

I knew she was classy when I saw her red and white wedding dress in the previews. So embarassing...
